Get It Loud In Libraries
Deliver music projects for National Portfolio Organisation Get it Loud in Libraries. Draw audiences into libraries through live music and prove that libraries are a great resource for communities.
We worked with 2 diverse groups of young people – year 6 pupils from a primary school and disabled adults from More Than Words Advocacy CIC, a community interest company in Wigan who provide creative and cultural opportunities for adults with learning disabilities.
The project brought two live performances of new and group devised songs to Wigan Library and Leasowe Library.
Over the course of 6 weeks, our practitioners Tom and Alice delivered drama and music workshops and devised a new song with this enthusiastic and inspiring group of adults with disabilities.
The song was written by the group and focused on what More Than Words means to them and their lives on a day to day basis. The song was created using a range of drama techniques which allowed participants to offer their thoughts in an inclusive and collaborative way. Over the first 3 weeks, Alice and Tom captured the participants’ thoughts on giant inspiration boards, and these words, ideas and anecdotes became the basis of the lyrics for the song. The finished song is a hugely inspiring piece which More Than Words are intending to use as their company anthem at events in the future.
The song was recorded in a studio and a film maker captured the process of creating the song.
The Altru team managed both projects, setting up timetables and dates, planning sessions and supporting the staff team to work collaboratively, coordinating the final library performances and evaluating the project for Youth Music.
