- History, KS2, Play in a Day
The Ancient Greeks works brilliantly when delivered through drama workshops. Imagine the Gods, the myths, the Olympics – all brought to life in your school hall!
Drama workshops are a creative resource which give your pupils the chance to develop their curiosity, creativity and confidence. They’re also time efficient – we can cover a huge amount in a short time and the learning is memorable because it’s delivered in a fun, participatory way by our expert drama practitioners.
We love helping children learn about the way people lived in Ancient Greece, the City States that structured the country, the Gods and the myths and the Olympics – there’s something for everyone!
If you are planning an Ancient Greeks topic, then a drama workshop day from us is the perfect place to start!
Altru’s drama workshops are planned to encourage enquiry and discussion. They allow children to develop chronological knowledge, as well as contextual understanding of how people lived. And we use role play and drama activities to consider the impact of historical periods on how we live today.
So, if you’re interested in bringing an Ancient Greeks drama workshop to your school, take a look at the options below.
Choose your delivery option based on the number of pupils in your cohort and what you’d like to achieve:
LEARN AND PRESENT:
A Learn and Present day is a fun and engaging day that really motivates your pupils. It’s suitable for 35 pupils in any year across Key Stage 2.
Pupils spend a full day with one of our practitioners doing drama workshop activities, playing games, singing songs, and having loads of fun. Across the day they’ll explore what life was like for The Ancient Greeks and create a short performance which is packed full of facts and information.
At around 2:30pm your class present their learning as a confidence-boosting performance. They perform to the rest of the school and you can also invite parents along.
It’s loads of fun and the chance to share their learning helps to make the experience memorable and meaningful for pupils.
The Explore format is perfect for larger schools as it gives you either 2 or 4 drama workshops for up to 4 classes in just 1 school day.
Each class works on the Ancient Greeks topic, learning historical information, facts and dates and about key figures. They also spend time thinking about how life for the Ancient Greeks was different from our lives today. All of the learning all delivered through drama games and activities which makes it fun and accessible to all.
An Explore Day is created in a bespoke way for you. We ask your teachers for 3 key things they’d like pupils to know and then develop your drama workshop based on the responses. This means the sessions can be really tailored to exactly what you’d like pupils to learn.

“Brilliant! We would love to do this again. Absolutely great day for the children – they were all really engaged and motivated to learn. Lots of facts that children will remember from acting out. Also encourages speaking in front of an audience which builds their confidence. 10 out of 10!” Ms O’Grady, KS2 Lead, St Wilfred’s RC Primary, Hulme.
