Perfect for World Book Day
Books are so important to us at Altru, and we want to inspire all children to become avid readers. Our English is a Day sessions promote reading and imagination.
English in a Day sessions promote reading and imagination, allow children to unlock their creativity and bring books to life! Sessions are planned to motivate children to explore a text in a creative and fun way, making it more accessible and memorable and making sometimes complex books (Shakespeare for example) easy to understand.
We can work with up to 6 classes in one school day, covering up to 6 different books. This helps you make the most of the time and the budget and gives up to 210 children a memorable, educational experience.
Choose either Learn and Present or Explore, both are explained below:
The Explore format gives you up to 6 workshops across the day (these happen one after the other and are delivered by one of our experienced practitioners.)
- You can either choose to have all of these workshops on the same theme – great if you’ve got multiple classes in each year group.
- Or you can choose to have each workshop on a different topic, based on what each class is studying.
Each class works on the topic in a creative way, learning about characters, settings, themes and use of language. This is all delivered through drama games and activities which brings the learning to life and leads into fantastic writing opportunities back in class.
With the EXPLORE format we can also take your class text and create a bespoke workshop just for you. Just give us a call to talk about this.
LEARN AND PRESENT:
Based on the always popular Play in a Day format, a Learn and Present day is a fun and engaging day that really motivates your pupils. This format is suitable for 1 class and 1 topic.
Children work with one of our team for a full day and learn about the topic though carefully planned drama and creative activities. Across the day they’ll explore your chosen book/topic in lots of detail, and then create a short performance of the text. Imagine your pupils as Romeo, The White Rabbit or Willie Wonka – that’s exactly what happens during these days.
At the end of the day the class present their learning as a performance with music, costumes and props to an invited audience of parents and the rest of the school. It’s loads of fun and the chance to share their learning helps to make the experience memorable and meaningful for pupils.
See below for the 9 English topics/books we offer in the Learn and Present format.
