Hansel & Gretel EYFS Performance

Hansel and Gretel – a new performance for EYFS

We are excited to announce a brand new performance for EYFS, which explores the traditional tale Hansel and Gretel.   The performance is 45 minutes long and is suitable for everyone in nursery and reception.

Presented by professional actors, this performance will bring the whole story of Hansel and Gretel to life for pupils using live music, puppetry and participation.

Children follow Hansel and Gretel into the woods, where they drop breadcrumbs, meet a flock of hungry birds and encounter the Witch and her home made of delicious gingerbread.  The performance is delivered in a clear and simple way which is easy for children to understand, but is also innovative and fun with lots to keep young minds entertained and engaged.

Following the performance, children take part in a short question and answer workshop to assess their understanding of the story and give them time to think about their favourite moments, characters and events.

We delivered the project for 2 schools in December and it was a huge hit.  Children loved getting involved with the story, helping Hansel and Gretel and learning about the characters and settings.  And teachers loved the storytelling element – encouraging children to read by using the book and original text in the performance.

“All children and staff really enjoyed it especially learning the song and participating. Very good, very age appropriate.” Anita Coakley, EYFS Lead, Holy Trinity Primary, Liverpool

Hansel and Gretel will be on tour in May 2017, coinciding with National Share a Story Month, a yearly initiative by the Federation of Children’s Book Groups. This year the theme is ‘Picture a Story’ and we’re delighted to offer schools a resource pack of follow up ideas to help children picture and draw Hansel and Gretel after the performance.  More information about National Share a Story Month can be found here: http://www.fcbg.org.uk/national-share-a-story-month/

A performance of Hansel and Gretel for up to 70 pupils costs £300 + vat (+ travel if outside of the North West.)  You can also book additional performances on the same day at a reduced rate.
