Cannabis Awareness

This Challenging Choices performance and workshop helps young people explore issues around using cannabis and explore the longer term impacts on health and wellbeing.

Cane started smoking cannabis when he was young, most people he knows do it and he’s never seen it as a problem. But as he reaches 16 and his friends begin to plan for their futures, Cane is lost and doesn’t know how to get out of the situation he’s created for himself.

This performance, delivered by a single actor, is part of a one hour / 90 minute session exploring issues around drug use, cannabis, mental health and addiction. The audience watch the performance and, afterwards, take part in discussion-based activities, led by our experienced team of actor educators who create a safe space for discussion and are able to refer young people to additional sources of support.

Topics covered

The session is non-judgemental, and is designed to create an open forum for discussion and debate. Through the use of a fictional character, young people can explore these issues safely – talking about the character’s choices, whilst reflecting on their own choices and behaviour.

When you book this Challenging Choices workshop, your students/young people will explore:

How addiction works, physically and emotionally.

The impact drug use can have on mental health and wellbeing.

The reasons why people use drugs.

The short and long term consequences of drug use and abuse.

How to support a friend or family member who is using drugs.

Sources of support for drug users.

Suitable for Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. We make minor adjustments to the script and change the workshop plan to suit each key stage.
