Home School Workshops PSHE Hate Crime

Hate Crime

We think drama can be a fantastic way to explore subjects that are complex and sensitive. A creative space in which to share ideas, be open and learn from each other through carefully created drama activities, can be just what children need to develop and grow.

Our workshops that explore Hate Crime are designed to support pupils learning and development in a creative and non-judgemental way. Through drama activities where they step into the shoes of others, we create an open forum for building empathy and understanding as well as developing opinions and ideas.

All of our workshops also help children to develop their confidence and self-esteem. We believe that confident children make better and healthier choices, and so building children’s self-worth is an important aspect of all of PSHE workshops.

Topics covered

If you book a Hate Crime drama workshop we will ask you about the key topics you’d like us to explore to tailor your workshop to your pupils’ needs. We will also always ensure your pupils learn the following areas of the RSE & Health Education guidance and ‘Promoting fundamental British Values as part of SMSC in schools’ guidance.
Respectful relationships, including the importance of respecting others as well as self-respect and respect for those in wider society.
What a stereotype is, and how stereotypes can be unfair, negative or destructive.
Being safe, including recognising when they feel unsafe and knowing who to talk to and how to ask for advice and support.
Mental wellbeing, including exploring the range of emotions human beings feel and how to recognise and talk about emotions.
About the importance of identifying and combatting discrimination.
All of our workshops are completely inclusive, so all children can get involved and achieve.

Getting the best out of your Hate Crime drama workshop

Our workshops need to take place in the school hall ideally, securing this space for the day of the workshop will help it run really smoothly (we can absolutely move into a classroom for lunchtime set up if needed)
Make sure a teacher or TA will be present in the workshop to support the pupils and help us understand their needs.
If you would like pupils to dress up we are happy for you to do this! We don’t provide costumes (as we don’t feel they are needed for the learning to take place) but we can always help with ideas of what to wear if you want to do this.
