Mary Anning

Learn about the life and work of palaeontologist Mary Anning, through an exciting drama workshop which explores the people, places and events of her life.

Children learn about Mary’s fascinating life, discoveries and the challenges she faced in a practical and participatory way, through drama games, activities and role play. They’ll explore the seacoast of Lyme Regis, discover fossils in the caves and learn about the prejudices in the scientific community all while having fun.

We use engaging and age-appropriate drama activities which give children the chance to learn and achieve in non-traditional ways, and because our workshops are practical the knowledge is memorable and meaningful, helping children understand people and concepts from the distant past more clearly.

Getting the best out of your Mary Anning drama workshop

Our workshops need to take place in the school hall ideally, securing this space for the day of the workshop will help it run really smoothly (we can absolutely move into a classroom for lunchtime set up if needed)
Make sure a teacher or TA will be present in the workshop to support the pupils and help us understand their needs.
If you would like pupils to dress up we are happy for you to do this! We don’t provide costumes (as we don’t feel they are needed for the learning to take place) but we can always help with ideas of what to wear if you want to do this.
