Just Breathe

Just Breathe is a new performance that raises awareness about drugs and alcohol including vaping, cannabis and ketamine.

The 45 minute performance, which takes place in your school hall, is hard hitting and engaging, giving young people the knowledge and information they need to make positive, healthy and informed choices.

The story follows three young people – Dylan, Lexi and Bella – as they navigate a difficult period of their lives and each uses drugs and/or alcohol. The show demonstrates the reasons why young people might look to drugs and alcohol to support them, or for experimentation – and clearly outlines the potential outcomes and consequences of each.

The show is suitable for Year 5 and 6.
You can also invite parents to form part of the audience. We are also able to offer the show to High Schools for Year 7 pupils.

After the performance we offer a workshop, where children explore the choices made by the characters and the consequences of these choices.

Just Breathe allows pupils to explore a difficult subject through creativity , giving them the chance to ask questions and develop understanding in a nurturing environment.

Feedback

The performance on drugs and alcohol was both powerful and inspiring. With incredible energy and
enthusiasm, the cast captivated the audience from the very beginning, making a serious topic accessible
and memorable for children.
The performance skillfully balanced entertainment with education, using relatable scenarios and characters to highlight the dangers of substance buse and the impact of peer pressure. It encouraged children to think critically about the choices they make and how they can lead to serious consequences for themselves and others. The performers’ ability to connect with young audiences was outstanding—humour, music, and storytelling were used effectively to reinforce key messages.

As always, Altru have succeeded in engaging the children impeccably with their performance whilst delivering so many sensitive messages in an appropriate way. The way that they balance serious topics with light-hearted humour works so well for our children, keeping them engaged without overwhelming them. The topics covered of cigarettes, vaping, drugs use (including ketamine), alcohol as well as dysfunctional and potentially unsafe family relationships were well-considered and complemented our PSHE unit perfectly. The children were thoroughly engaged throughout and this is a testament to Altru.
Once again, I thank Altru for coming into our school and we look forward to working together again.
