What a week we had last week! We were busy bees & loved it! We had a few Play in a Days out in schools across the North West – Ady was in St Patrick’s Primary in Toxteth. He was working with Year 6s on the topic of Transition. They really enjoyed the day and are feeling confident and ready to embark on their new journey in September. We wish them loads of luck in their new schools!
Tash was in Cheetwood Primary in Manchester working on WW2 with Year 2. This was their first ever Play in a Day and they really enjoyed it. WW2 is usually aimed at key stage 2 but this class were so capable that Tash didn’t even have a part in the performance as she usually would with the little ones, they performed all on their own. Well done Year 2!
Halewood Church of England Primary booked Stone Age to Iron Age and Ed headed there for the day on Friday. This was the first time he had delivered this topic and absolutely loved it! This box is really fun and every child gets a fur costume to wear – which always goes down well when it comes to giving out costumes.
On Tuesday Kate and Katie went to Victoria Road Primary in the morning and then All Saints Primary as part of the SLiCE project, In Our Own Words, which focusses on creative writing. This week’s theme was Inspiring Writing. This Thursday is story reading day – Kate, Aiden and Katie will come together, ready all of the stories and then select a number of them to be made into a show!
We were delighted to hear that Bright Futures in South Shields were awarded in the South Tyneside Volunteers Awards last week. The project recognised was the Young Ambassadors and Mini Ambassadors Christmas performance, which was developed and supported by us between August and December. Kate worked with the group to create a performance about financial literacy which drew on Jeremy Kyle, X Factor and Googlebox for inspiration! The play was rehearsed by the children, with the Young Ambassadors in directing roles, and performed for a packed audience of family and friends in December when the important ‘save, don’t spend’ message seemed more relevant than ever! The project was nominated in the ‘ Supporting the Community Category’, and achieved the runner up position – an amazing achievement as the awards recognise individual volunteers to large community projects. We loved working in South Shields and want to pass on our congratulations to the whole Bright Futures team!
Also this week was the start of the Eyes Open tour on Wednesday! The team were in Burtonwood Primary and St Paul’s Primary on Wednesday and then in Kew Woods and Parochial Primary at the end of the week. The tour is going great so far and the Year 6’s we’re working with are really benefitting from the performance and workshops. We now have very limited availability left for the rest of the tour so get in touch ASAP if you would like to secure a slot!
