ALTRU IS A CREATIVE EDUCATION ORGANISATION SPECIALISING IN USING DRAMA TO BUILD CONFIDENCE, DEVELOP SKILLS AND DELIVER MESSAGES.
We deliver drama workshops, projects and performances that are designed to enhance the National Curriculum and engage with personal, social and health education issues. The work we do with schools has a significant and lasting benefit, as teachers consistently tell us that their pupils are more confident, demonstrate improved concentration and are excited about learning.
Since we set up in 2005 our mission has remained the same – to use drama and the arts to educate children and young people, to inspire them to be the best versions of themselves and to provide high quality creative opportunities for pupils and teachers that would create a lasting impact.
Since 2005 we’ve changed and grown as a company, navigating curriculum and governmental change and working in partnership with schools to find the best ways of teaching and learning through the arts.
Altru is led by Kate Cotterell; a qualified and experienced teacher and drama practitioner with a passion for creative education, literacy, Shakespeare and PSHE. Kate develops new projects, works with teachers, trains our practitioners and writes the scripts for our performances. Kate is supported by an incredible team of educators and creative practitioners, all of whom bring different skills and styles to the Altru table. This allows us to develop and deliver a diverse and ambitious range of projects across the UK each year.
Our practitioners are specialists and the work we deliver is designed to be inspirational, exciting, challenging and fun. We believe children learn best when they enjoy their work, and this ethos underpins everything we do.
