Healthy Eating in a Day

The Healthy Eating Play in a Day was one of our earliest projects at Altru – we once delivered over 40 for a local authority (in 40 days!)  And all these years later, we feel the healthy eating messages contained within the play are still really relevant for children in KS2 but we’ve changed the format slightly to make it even more flexible for you to fit into your school day.

You can now choose from 2 exciting options, based on the number of pupils you have and what you’d like to achieve:

A Learn and Present day is an action-packed, participatory day which gets your pupils thinking about the issues. Pupils spend a full day with one of our practitioners, who uses a skeleton script and a huge range of drama activities to guide pupils through the topic. Children explore what a healthy meal looks like, think about the different food groups and how each works in our bodies.  They also learn about the importance of exercise for keeping fit and healthy.

As pupils work, they create scenes which link together to become a performance at the end of the school day. Once all of the hard work is done, the class present their performance with costume, music, and props to the rest of the school and parents too, if you’d like to invite them.

The Explore format is perfect for larger schools as it gives you between 4 and 6 workshops in one school day.  Each class receives a 45 – 60 minute workshop where they can work practically on the themes of healthy eating and wellbeing, using drama exercises to learn in a fun and creative way.

As with the Learn and Present day, we cover food groups and how they impact on our bodies as well as looking at the value of exercise for keeping us fit, healthy and strong.

Each workshop is tailored to the year group and offers a chance for useful discussion and debate about the topic. And because we deliver each session through drama activities, games and songs – children have funand don’t even realise they’re learning!

Add an assembly to the day:

You can add an optional assembly to the start of your Healthy Eating Day, allowing every pupil in school to join together in the hall, have some fun and learn some basic information about healthy eating.  Our practitioner will lead all of your pupils through a fun 20-30 minute session using games, songs and interactive activities to get them fired up about the topic.  Perfect for themed day and weeks including BNF Healthy Eating Week 2018.
